‘Reclining Nude Confronting the Viewer’ – Oil by Melissa Clements
Description
Reclining Nude Confronting the Viewer is a contemporary Femme Nue still life by Perth-based artist Melissa Clements, measuring 53 cm x 42.5 cm. Painted in oil on panel and elegantly framed, this piece explores intimacy and gaze, presenting a reclining figure whose direct eye contact challenges and engages the viewer.
Through her fusion of classical technique and modern narrative, Clements evokes both vulnerability and strength, creating a work that feels timeless while deeply rooted in the present.
Melissa Clements is a British-born fine artist now based in Perth, Western Australia. Her work is informed by her migrant experience, using painting to interpret memory, identity, and the human condition. She has been a finalist in the Archibald Prize (2023), Darling Prize (2022), and Lester Prize (2021). At 23, she was commissioned by the Supreme Court of Western Australia to paint the official portrait of Chief Justice Peter Quinlan. In 2024, she is the Studio 7 Resident at PS Art Space, Fremantle.
