Melissa Clements
Melissa Clements is a Perth‑based painter, Archibald Portrait & Lester Prize Finalist, whose work reinvigorates classical technique in service of contemporary portraiture and figurative narrative. Her canvases balance exacting draftsmanship with a restrained, luminous palette, creating images that are technically assured and emotionally resonant.
Working in layered oil glazes, Clements sculpts light and edge until a subject emerges with quiet intensity. The atmospheres she builds; part realist, part contemplative invite long looking. Viewers often register the craft first, then the interior life held within the image.
We place Clements’ paintings to anchor a space: their calm gravity pairs with sculptural objects and material‑rich furniture, becoming a still point in a layered interior. The work speaks to our larger project; design that is refined, deeply human and built to endure.
Clements’ practice includes teaching and mentorship, and her works are held in private collections. She continues to develop bodies of work that test the boundary between the observable and the felt.
