Artist Biography
Born in Vanadzor, Armenia, in 1989 and now based in Rotterdam, Yeliza Gevorgyan is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves fluidly between visual art, music and language.
Working with oil, pigment and linen, Gevorgyan builds quietly expressive compositions through restrained colour, tactile surfaces and an instinctive process of layering and reduction. Naïve, indeterminate lines and unruly forms interrupt the stillness of her works, creating a delicate tension between control and spontaneity, complexity and simplicity.
Her sensitivity to rhythm and material gives each composition an almost musical quality. Marks appear as fragments, gestures or traces—suggestive without becoming fully descriptive—and invite the viewer to experience the work slowly and intuitively.
Grounded in a deep appreciation for raw materials, Gevorgyan’s practice creates a compelling dialogue between ancient artistic traditions and contemporary abstraction. The resulting works feel both elemental and distinctly modern: intimate, imperfect and quietly assured.
