Artist Biography
Luke Crouch is a Tasmanian furniture maker whose practice is grounded in a direct relationship with material, place and process. Working primarily with Australian eucalyptus hardwood, he creates sculptural furniture by hand, allowing the grain, checking, tool marks and natural irregularities of each piece of timber to remain visible.
Crouch’s stools, chairs and benches balance strong botanical forms with the honesty of their construction. Seats are shaped like flowers and ginkgo leaves, while carved surfaces and expressive silhouettes give each piece an individual presence.
Made in limited quantities in his Tasmanian studio, each work is hewn, carved and finished individually. Available in natural, bleached and charred finishes, the collection celebrates the character of native timber and the beauty of furniture that clearly bears the hand of its maker.
