Marshall Wood is a Perth-based custom furniture studio founded in 2019 by designer and craftsman Jake Sawyer. Born from a desire to create bespoke pieces that stand the test of time, the studio reflects Sawyer’s commitment to durability, refinement, and the enduring relationship between maker, material and client.
A self-taught designer, Sawyer approaches each commission as a collaboration. His process encompasses every stage of a piece’s life, from initial consultation and design sketches to sourcing responsibly harvested timbers, hand-building, finishing, and final delivery. This holistic approach ensures that each object is more than furniture: it is the result of dialogue, care, and meticulous attention to detail. Clients across Australia and internationally have sought Sawyer’s work for its blend of functional integrity and sculptural presence.
Sawyer’s aesthetic can be described as small architectures at the scale of the hand and home. Working across timber, metal and mineral composites, he builds forms where line and surface are orchestrated so that light becomes a material in its own right. The work feels inevitable, as if it has always belonged in the room, clarity and proportion taking precedence over ornament. Each collection is developed iteratively, refining a single idea until only what is essential remains.
At Cleo Collects, we value Sawyer’s subtlety and restraint. In layered interiors, his objects function as connective tissue, bringing cohesion to disparate textures and eras without ever demanding attention. This rare quality makes Marshall Wood an integral part of our curatorial ethos: design that bridges heritage and future, creating interiors that are not only beautiful but also profoundly livable.
