Artist Biography
Ellen McIvor (b. 1998, Cairns) is a Kalkadoon-based Aboriginal artist whose practice preserves cultural knowledge, spirituality and lore, mainly with acrylic on canvas and occasionally incorporating medium acrylic gloss. She is a proud Balnggarrawarra woman from the Warra nation and Guugu Yimidhirr language group, also with connections to Yarrabah and Woolgar.
Her work explores the continuation of Aboriginal culture post-colonisation and within the current social climate. She is passionate about her art being a vehicle for truth-telling and Indigenous advocacy. Ellen first displayed works in 2021 at the biannual Laura Dance Festival and has privately sold several works since. She has recently secured a collaboration with Naarm-based interior designers to be announced later this year, as well as other exciting projects in progress.
