Ella Holme

Ella Holme is a visual artist based in Perth, Western Australia. Creating and drawing has been innate to her practice since childhood. She attended her first still life class at the age of six and went on to win several art awards throughout high school. After graduating, she pursued freelance graphic design while undertaking Fine Art studies at Curtin University. This blend of technical training and intuitive mark-making continues to shape her evolving body of work.

Holme is particularly passionate about the serendipitous processes of alla prima oil painting. Her approach often relies on loose brushwork, discordant colours, and cropped compositions that attempt to capture both emotion and the poetry of everyday objects; food, vessels, and domestic settings.

Across her practice, Holme is unified by a sensitivity to touch and a fascination with the imperfect line. Her palette tends toward mineral neutrals punctuated by deep, inky tones, and her silhouettes are edited and generous, favouring proportion over ornament. Function and sculpture trade places, depending on how a piece is used and seen. At Cleo Collects, we turn to Holme’s paintings and objects when a space needs works that feel lived with from the moment they arrive. They carry a quiet lyricism, supporting rather than competing with furniture and art around them, while bringing a distinctly West Australian sensibility of light, landscape, and ease.
