Pierre Jérôme Painting 1930s Paris

Trained in the classical tradition and awarded the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1934, Pierre Jérôme (1905–1982) was more than a painter. He was a master and as a professor at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and École Polytechnique, he shaped generations of artists, including Hervé Loilier, who would become his artistic heir.

Jérôme once wrote, “To interpret is to seek a light in the darkness…” a reflection of the passion and depth he brought to his work.
